At the Roxy Theatre right now
As of this week's check of the official site, Northampton's single-screen Roxy Theatre is showing Coyote vs. Acme (rated PG) through Thursday, September 17. Evenings play daily at 7:00 PM, with matinees on Wednesday at 1:00 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $3 and sold only at the box office, with free parking behind the theatre.

In Northampton this week
The big one for families: the borough's Movies in the Park returns this Friday, September 18, starting at 6:00 PM with food trucks, games, face painting, and a balloon artist, followed by the movie at dusk. It is a free evening out in the borough, and a nice reason to be out in the early-fall air.
Northampton Borough Council holds its regular meeting Thursday, September 17 at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers at Borough Hall, streamed on the borough's YouTube channel, with agendas posted to the borough site ahead of time. Around town, the street sweeper is back in service for the season and vendor registration for the borough's 2026 Hometown Holiday has opened, so those planning a booth can sign up early.
Festivals ahead this month and next
Stargazers can start Thursday night: Lehigh University's free Stargazing Spectacular runs September 17 from 9:00 to 11:00 PM at Iacocca Hall in Bethlehem. Then the festival calendar picks up quickly. The Celtic Classic Highland Games & Festival returns for its 39th year September 25-27 in historic downtown Bethlehem, a free weekend of Celtic music across five stages, sanctioned highland games, pipe bands, Irish dance, and food, with the Morning Star Rotary Celtic Classic 5K on Saturday, September 26.
Families should also circle Saturday, September 26 for the free Lehigh Valley Space Fest, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Lehigh University's Mountaintop Campus, with more than 20 exhibitors, an inflatable planetarium, drone and robotics tours, solar astronomy, an astronaut photo station, and food trucks. Looking ahead to early October, Oktoberfest at SteelStacks returns October 2-4 and 9-11 in Bethlehem with German food and beer in the Yuengling Biergarten, dachshund races, and the Pennsylvania State Stein Holding Championship, plus the Yuengling Oktoberfest 5K on Sunday, October 4. At the Wind Creek Event Center, Black Veil Brides play September 26 and the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship returns October 9. Both festivals are free and easy day trips from Northampton.
Northampton Area School District
The Northampton Area School District school board began its 2026-27 meeting season in the boardroom at the Northampton Area Education Center on New Seemsville Road, and its next regular meeting on the approved Monday schedule is October 12, streamed on the district site. The Konkrete Kids varsity football team follows its season-opening home win with a road game at Liberty this Thursday, September 17, then returns to Al Erdosy Stadium for a home game vs. Parkland on Friday, September 25 and vs. Pleasant Valley on Thursday, October 1. The district's 2026-27 school year continues under the new K-5 attendance boundaries tied to the opening of East Allen Elementary School and Educational Center, and the 2026-27 calendar and athletics schedules are published at nasdschools.org.
Places to eat out this week
The dining news this week is a grand opening close to home: Dave's Hot Chicken opens its first Lehigh Valley location at the Nazareth Crossing shopping center, 3812 Easton-Nazareth Highway (Route 248) in Lower Nazareth Township, with a soft opening Thursday, September 17 and a grand opening Friday, September 18. Expect the chain's spicy Nashville-style tenders and sliders in the former SaladWorks space, a short drive from Northampton.
Further out, Texas de Brazil is planned for the former Ruby Tuesday space at Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall, and First Watch is coming to Emrick Boulevard in Bethlehem Township, with Nori Japan already open at the mall. Near 4021 Pine Hurst Drive in Northampton and Nazareth, these local spots remain easy picks: Nazareth Diner for a full-menu classic, Sicily Pizza for pizza, Los Compadres for Mexican, Catty Corner in Nazareth for pub fare and pie, Pizza Joe's for Italian, and Mad J's BBQ for a smokehouse option. And while you are out, a warm apple cider donut at one of the valley's farm stands is the seasonal way to close the week.
